Saad Eltinay (born 1995, Khartoum) is a Sudanese photographer whose artistic expression draws inspiration from personal and collective memories and emotions. He has been on a quest to explore his passion for visual arts since 2012. Through an observational prism, he questions the interplay between space, society, and personal reflections as catalysts of change.
For When Solidarity Is Not a Metaphor, Saad Eltinay is presenting selected photographs from his series Alive and Eternally Rising (2021-ongoing), accompanied by a fabric book.
Since 2019, Sudan has witnessed significant civil resistance, met with harsh repression—from internet blackouts to violent crackdowns on protesters, undermining citizens’ rights. Eltinay’s photo series, a long-term exploration, captures the resilience and voices of the Sudanese striving for democracy and the rule of law amidst governmental and international challenges.
Eltinay’s work delves into visual narratives of change, spotlighting societal shifts through photography. His art reflects on themes such as family, intimacy, masculinity, and power within the context of Sudan’s civil movements and unrest.
Through storytelling and image-making, Eltinay seeks to document and understand the ongoing, stranded socio-political transformations and issues in Sudan, highlighting the human condition and the continuous fight for social change in a landscape marked by turmoil and hope for a democratic future.
