Al Quoz Creative Zone: 2022 - 2023

Alserkal Advisory was commissioned by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority to curate a dynamic series of programmes in support of the Al Quoz Creative Zone initiative, with the goal of positioning the area as a thriving hub of creativity and entrepreneurship. The comprehensive programming included walkthroughs, talks, and workshops designed to engage local residents and visitors in discovering the vibrant creative community within Al Quoz. To consolidate and strengthen the Creative Zone as a hub of innovation, the Advisory launched the Incubator Programme, two Makers' Exchanges, and two Makers PechaKuchas, all leading up to the highly anticipated Al Quoz Creative Entrepreneurship Forum. This two-day forum provided a platform for industry leaders to deliver inspiring keynotes, participate in thought-provoking panel discussions, and offer valuable workshops, networking opportunities, and a creative entrepreneurship competition with a pre-seed grant fund. Through this initiative, the project aimed to foster a supportive ecosystem where emerging creative talents and startups could thrive in the arts and culture sector.

In 'When the Ground Was', Sarah Almehairi takes us along for a walk. Concrete floor sculptures and works on paper and canvas become visual pathfinders, each a portal to another story. Sometimes architectural, other times cartographic, together, they toy with the notion of scale and perception. And then, somewhere, Sarah's body of work appears as a prompt - a starting point for many things - a poem, a guide, an invitation, but most significantly, a process of unlearning, where she gently nudges viewers to deconstruct things they believed to be true, sensitising them to connect with their environment in new, distinct ways.
