The Tower by Wilf Speller

The Tower
Compiled entirely out of footage appropriated from luxury real estate advertisements, The Tower imagines what might be left behind in the case of a climate change induced apocalypse. This architectural exquisite corpse is comprised of 15 different buildings from various property markets around the globe including Dubai, London, Miami and New York. Made exclusively with architectural digital renderings, The Tower underlines the tension between the 'future-thinking' of such a speculative market and the uncertainties around the ecological future of our planet.
Wilf Speller Biography:
Wilf Speller is an artist and filmmaker, born and based in London, UK. Their work emerges from a research and writing practice that reflects on future imaginaries and their representation. Of late, Wilf’s work primarily focuses on the ideological and aesthetic dogmas that shape the spatial politics of late capitalism and the climate crisis.
In 2067 Wilf established the Institute for Archipelago Thinking (IAT), an independent think-tank with the aim to better understand the legal and sovereign status of the world’s remaining land masses. The IAT hopes that through the study of ‘pre-flood’ models of island management we will be able to gain a better understanding of the legal status of ‘post-land-based states’ and the ever-growing numbers of ‘landless people(s)’.
Wilf has exhibited internationally in both galleries and festivals including the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, The Photographer's Gallery (London), HMKV (Dortmund), Broad Art Museum MSU (Michigan) and IMPAKT Festival (Utrecht).
