Alserkal Arts Foundation in collaboration with Warehouse421
This two year research program focuses on performance and live art practice in the region and beyond, with a view to developing new critical enquiry in collaboration with practitioners, art historians, writers and researchers.
Launching in November 2021 with seminars and workshops, our shared project will frame and present the work of artists outside the conventions of existing institutional models on their own terms, and identify common ground on which to construct new models. Rather than remain within the vocabulary of canon/outsider, center/periphery or the decolonial as a blanket term, we will collectively aim to upack, extend and liberate contemporary practice into historical, thematic and artist-led frameworks that better serve our contexts and concerns.
