CARBON 12
“THE RIFF” is the 4th solo exhibition of the artist Anahita Razmi at Carbon12 Gallery.
The artists’ work of appropriation and transcultural recontextualization takes a novel trajectory in it: Through a conceptual use of somewhat offbeat media, the exhibition contrives a visual and sonic assemblage of recurrent symbols of (post-)nationalisms, fading empires, and past cosmopolitanisms.
With works ranging from analogue film/photography to 3D animation to sound, Razmi combines representational signs, patterns, and riffs in ways that explicitly disable representation. “THE RIFF” thereby also proposes a tongue-in-cheek ambivalent attempt to imagine traces of a strange new internationalism.
