Plants You Can Eat, Medicines You Can Taste

Shereen Al Mulla & Mahdiah El-Jed

Long before medicine lived in bottles, it lived in kitchens. The Edible Apothecary is an immersive introduction to the space where food and herbal medicine meet.

Starts
November 1, 2026
Open Hours
6PM
Venue
The Yard

Led by clinical herbalists and hikma rituals founders Mahdiah el Jed and Shereen Al Mulla, participants will explore a collection of familiar culinary plants through taste, scent, touch and story, discovering the medicinal traditions hidden inside ingredients we may already have in our kitchens.

From fennel, rosemary and mint to sumac, nigella, rose and thyme, we will explore how taste itself can offer clues to the chemistry and traditional uses of plants, and how herbs and spices have been woven into everyday food cultures for generations.

Participants will smell, taste and work directly with the plants before creating their own edible botanical blend using herbs, spices, flowers and seeds from the workshop apothecary.

Part herbalism class, part sensory experience and part making workshop, The Edible Apothecary invites us to look again at something profoundly simple: the possibility that food can nourish us in ways that extend far beyond calories, and that some of our oldest medicines may already be sitting on the kitchen shelf.

Each participant leaves with their own handcrafted botanical finishing blend and a simple guide to creating an edible apothecary at home.
