Our place in this forever shifting world is the starting point for Out of Place, a group show featuring works by Vikram Divecha, Mohammed Kazem, :mentalKLINIK, Haleh Rejaian, Hassan Sharif, and Raed Yassin. Walls—the ubiquitous spatial parameters of our daily existence—are re-thought, either as vanishing witnesses to a collective human hum, or as neat stacks of discarded ‘designated waste’ from a tunnel wall mosaic. Out of Place proposes a moment of disjunction, suggesting a state of being out of joint with place, the way one is out of sync with time. Whether seen as a eulogy for our times, as one artist puts it, or as a monument to insignificance, Out of Place raises questions about space, surface, and how we are, perhaps, articulated by our material interactions.
