In this workshop we will experiment with research materials, collectively generating possible biographies of monumental sculptural artworks that inhabit Dubai’s urban landscape. We will work with images of monuments or sculptural artworks that were created to commemorate events, create landmarks, and celebrate individual and collective figures from the 1960s to the present day.

No prior knowledge about monuments in Dubai is necessary, all questions and answers are valid and necessary within a participatory workshop that takes curiosity as its starting point. Varied and eclectic sources will then be treated as research materials, such as an anecdote, a memory of going to a restaurant near a given monument, an image, a sound recording, a Google map screen-capture, or a location shared via WhatsApp among others. Further instructions will be provided upon registration.

This workshop is part of a larger work in progress that intertwines different formats of knowledge production about places and objects that tend to become invisible in our daily routines. Please note that this workshop will be recorded.

Limited to 12 participants. Please register by Thursday 24th March
