Everybody Changes Underwater | by Faris Alshafar

Aisha Alabbar Gallery presents Everybody Changes Underwater, the first solo exhibition by Emirati artist Faris Alshafar. The show brings together a new body of work, primarily paintings, loosely informed by his own biography and personal milestones. Across them Alshafar explores immersion, escape and transformation, moving between contrasting states of tension and release, discomfort and euphoria. His visual language shifts between the personal and the imagined. The works ask what happens when something is fully immersed, and how the act of going under can leave it altered upon resurfacing.
