After years of hosting nomadic pop ups in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, Cinema Akil established itself as the first arthouse cinema in the GCC in 2018, quickly becoming a fan favourite. Founded by Butheina Kazim, Cinema Akil promotes the goal of education and awareness-building around film and the cinematic arts.

Housed with Cinema Akil is Project Chaiwala, an all-day diner for the best chai in Dubai. Inspired by tea culture from around the world, from ‘karak’ stops in Bur Dubai to ‘clay kulhar’ cups in vibrant Delhi markets, Project Chaiwala shares an authentic take on chai, and infuses every cup with the chaiwala spirit.
