Alserkal Avenue Announces ‘Upcycled’ Urban Market: Winter 2015 to close the season in the Avenue

Alserkal Avenue is holding its second ‘Upcycled’ Urban Market on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of December 2015. Running from 11am till 8pm, the two day event will include art, live music, food, workshops, activities and a chance to buy gifts ranging from art and fashion to upcycled bicycles.

Alserkal Avenue is holding its second ‘Upcycled’ Urban Market on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of December 2015. Running from 11am till 8pm, the two day event will include art, live music, food, workshops, activities and a chance to buy gifts ranging from art and fashion to upcycled bicycles. The market is free to attend and is open to all, offering a platform for the community to get involved in the local arts scene. This year’s theme focuses on recycled, biodegradable, natural and organic products, a running theme with everything from products being sold to food being eaten.

Good Vibes is returning to the Avenue providing visitors with an array of food and special winter treats, thejamjar will have a painting studio, where children and adults alike can showcase their talent. The Sameness Project will be doing the iGotSole project which will encompass a wall where people can take and pin up pictures and answer three questions, amongst other activities and items that will be for sale. Artist Heather Conyers will be offering a printmaking workshop which will allow participants to create unique mixed media relief prints for 30AED. FN Designs will be hosting Pop-up shop with various brands, as well as an Acrylic Workshop from 1-6pm introducing the medium with demos and canvas preparation.

the cARTEL will have a festive themed sale in their space featuring out of the box fashion and unique finds for gifts. There will also be a variety of over 50 vendors selling jewellery, fashion, upcycled homeware and vintage furniture, prints, graphics and art including: Baembu who create t-shirts from bamboo and organic cotton, Chari Cycles who make upcycled bikes and Urban Yogi selling their antique and unique furniture, along with Upcycled Dubai to name a few. ESMOD will also be selling fashion form emerging designers, with all proceeds allocated to the ESMOD Fashion Designers Incubator.

Flowground will be bringing the hula-hoopers to the avenue for some active fun and LMTD will have live painting and ping pong tables outside their space. Across the lanes Gulf Photo Plus will be running two free seminars from 3pm, 4.30pm and 6pm over the weekend: ‘From Snapshots to Great Shots’ on Friday and ‘The Super Smartphone’ on Saturday. They will also be giving away 1 Level 1 Voucher each day to the best image shared and tagged by attendees, utilising what they have learned from the seminar.

In A4 Space, the Yellow Korner will have a pop-up of photographs for sale and we will be showing your favourite winter films throughout the day in the cinema room.

Leila Heller Gallery will be providing tours by curator Dr Shiva Balaghi of the new space from 3pm across the weekend. The Junction will be having performances of The Odd Couple (female version) from 7.30pm, entry fee will be 100AED at the door, visitors can register at thejunctiondubai.com/calendar.

Not to be missed live music provided by Freshly Ground Sounds, and live Dj
sets include Dj MoCity, Kamal Rasool and DJ Max from Satwa 3000 amongst others, mixing alternative sounds throughout the day.

We encourage visitors to use public transportation to get to Alserkal Avenue, with taxi stands available on the day. What’s more, the Uber code ‘UrbanMarket15’ will give first-time users AED 80 off their trip to or from Urban Market.
