The Tashkeel Makerspace
This beginner-friendly printmaking workshop introduces participants to the vibrant art of color woodcut printing, a traditional relief technique using carved wooden blocks and multiple ink layers. Delivered over two sessions, the workshop walks participants through the entire creative process—from carving an inking to registering paper and printing.
Led by Imran Liyakhath Ali Khan, a Master of Fine Arts graduate and practicing artist, the sessions will cover the basics of relief printing, tool handling, colour layering, and composition. Participants will learn how to create and transfer a design, use positive and negative space effectively, and apply multiple colour layers using simple registration techniques.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete a multi-coloured woodcut print using their own hand-carved block—a dynamic and tactile introduction to one of the oldest printmaking forms in fine art This workshop blends creativity, heritage, and functionality—offering a truly meaningful artistic experience.
