Untamed Pages II: The Dinner Party
Playwriting workshop with Rebecca Crookshank
Alserkal Arts Foundation
A playwriting workshop for writers, artists and actors; untethering architects of the page and stage.
Playwright, screenwriter and visual artist Rebecca Crookshank invites participants to imagine and construct the elements of theatre and co-create a scene that revels in the rituals of a celebratory dinner.
Participants will be presented with a number of exercises to prompt their own creativity, imagery and aesthetic. By extracting and rooting characters from history, we will assemble around the table, with personally crafted place settings and words to feed conversation - What’s the celebration? Can we converse across decades or centuries as if we have dined here forever? What interrupts or connects characters? How might this collision of energy play out between them and serve as an invitation to the audience?
Through playful experimentation building on the shared celebration of kinship and mythologies from our everyday lives, we ask for writers and performers to visualise and create extraordinary worlds together.
For preparation, each participant is asked to bring with them a reference to a significant character in history that holds personal meaning.
Date: Saturday, 18 May 2024
Time: 10.30AM - 2.30PM
Location: WH51, Common Room, Alserkal Arts Foundation
