THE GRAND TOUR: A photographic journey in Italy
Part of Alserkal Lates
The GRAND TOUR, was a fabulous, and now legendary, journey taken by our ancestors to track the visible memories of the cultural heritage which was part of their identity.
Photographers: Alfred Noack, Carlo Naja, Leopoldo Alinari, Giacomo Brogi, Alphonse Bernoud, Edmond Behles, Robert Rive, Giorgio Sommer, Gioacchino Altobelli, James (Domenico) Anderson, Robert MacPherson, Giacomo Caneva, Antonio and Paolo Francesco D’Alessandri, Giovanni Crupi, Giuseppe Incorpora, Wilhelm Plüschow, Wilhelm von Gloeden, Achille Mauri
The exhibition offers a journey through time, undertaken more than one hundred years ago, between 1850 and 1890. Viewers will discover a world that no longer exists, but still fills us with nostalgia.
Curated by Michele Bonuomo and Mara Firetti the exhibition features fifty vintage photographs and five original albums by the most important photographers working in Italy between 1850 and 1890. The core concept of the exhibition is to show images of some of the “must-see” Grand Tour destinations such as Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Palermo, Taormina, and others.
