Permission to Narrate features six timeless Palestinian films
Echoing Edward Said's seminal work, this program challenges narratives that have long marginalised Palestinian voices, advocating for an embrace and amplification of their stories. This Reel Palestine capsule program is an invocation for narrative reclamation and assertion of a sovereign right to weave one’s own tapestries of history and identity.
From May 15th to 19th engage with the profound depths of Palestinian narrative cinema. This series features six timeless films, commencing with Yousry Nasrallah’s “Bab El Shams (Gate of the Sun),” followed by “Jenin, Jenin” by Mohammad Bakri, “Rana's Wedding” by Hany Abu-Assad, “Tomorrow's Freedom: Marwan Bargouthi” by Georgia Scott and Sophia Scott, “Divine Intervention” by Elia Suleiman, and concluding with Mats Grorud’s animated film “The Tower,” which caters to our younger audiences. Each film presents a distinct viewpoint, offering insights into the complexities of life under occupation and celebrating the indomitable resilience of the human spirit.
