In an era marked by war, genocide, injustice, artificiality, and collective mourning, Rami Farook’s presentation of works (since 2009, many of which completed recently or still in progress) embrace the uncomfortable subject of "ugliness." Often associated with a lack of beauty or appeal, ugliness can refer to attributes or ideas perceived as unattractive, unpleasant, or even offensive. A subjective concept, shaped by context, culture, and individual preferences.

By embracing ugliness, the open studio exposes the darker sides of life—decay, suffering, inhumanity—focusing on emotional experiences often overlooked in favor of visual pleasure. Drawing from contemporary frustration and a yearning for connection, Rami attempts to present a raw and unsettling landscape, by evoking disturbance & remembrance.

A group show of the same title, curated by Rami, continues at ATHR gallery’s Art Dubai booth; featuring an impactful lineup of contemporary artists and offering a timely departure from traditional aesthetic standards within the context of an art fair.
