Part of Frontiers
Using rhythmic exercises and movement vocabulary from Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi’s Harleking, this workshop delves into the dynamic metamorphosis between ourselves and the kinetic conditions of our environment.
Drawing inspiration from ancient grotesque symmetric patterns, participants will examine the muscular response to laughter, transforming it into a kinaesthetic expression of Commedia dell’arte figures.
Commedia dell’arte Or Comedy of the Profession was an early form of professional theatre, originating in Italy before spreading across Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries.
The programme is presented in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue, the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, and Aerowaves–a hub for dance discovery in Europe comprising 46 partners in 34 countries committed to identifying and nurturing emerging choreographers–and the ATER Fondazione and Italian Cultural Institute Abu Dhabi.
About the Artists
Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, based in Berlin and Turin, have been working as a duo since 2008. Their artistic research interlaces dance, performance and visual art. They delve into themes related to the historical connection between communication, violence and power, basing themselves on ancient performances, creating hybrid figures or images between history and reality. They gained international recognition with their choreographic work, Harleking (2018), which in addition to being presented at some of the most important international festivals, was presented at the European platform AEROWAVES Twenty 19, the New Italian Dance (NID) Platform and by Tanzplatform Deutschland 2020.
