Majlis Talks: Acts of Presence: Stories of Africa’s Creative Leaders
The Yard
Curated by Charlotte Ashamu
This edition of Majlis Talks curated by Charlotte Ashamu brings together a visionary group of leaders working across the creative industries on the African continent. From museums to public art initiatives to design studios, these leaders are developing new approaches that resist the dominant.
Their institutions and practices forge distinction, challenging conventional models of where and how art can be created, presented and preserved. A dynamic cross-section of artists and cultural producers working in four countries––Ghana, Ethiopia, South Africa and Cote d’Ivoire–– share illuminating stories related to this year’s theme, Acts of Presence. Reflecting on this theme, the speakers explore the act of being present as a core element in how people find meaning, connection and engagement in their creative spaces and beyond.
Programme will begin with an introduction by Charlotte Ashamu, followed by individual performances and presentations.
Schedule for 5pm - 7:30pm
Session 1 with Kwame-Akoto Bamfo
