Jan Kath's RUG BOMBS: Carpets that narrate the story of war
On the occasion of Art Dubai, Iwan Maktabi presents the latest works of German carpetmaker, designer and artist, Jan Kath.
The carpets on show are highlights from Kath’s collections: Spectrum, Erased Heritage and Savonnerie.
During the exhibition, a central room is dedicated to his latest art project, “Rug Bombs”
The pop-art inspired collection of wall-hangings, first presented at Documenta Fifteen and currently on show at Bangkok Art Biennale narrates the story of war as it needs to be understood today, and questions the origins of violence.
Familiar images of fighter jets, tanks and more receive a fresh contextual expression, and are embedded with traditional Persian motifs, updating the concept of the war rugs of Afghanistan.
