Autumn 1955, Carla Crane is given a letter from her mother, Caroline, 20 years to the day after the death of her father, famous artist Amyas Crane. In the letter Caroline, who died in prison after having been found guilty of the murder of her husband, claims that she was innocent of the crime. With the help of family solicitor, Justin Fogg, Carla gathers all the people who were with her parents that fateful weekend, and asks them to recall what happened in order to find the real culprit.
