Join Charlie Koolhaas in conversation with curator Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director Curatorial at Art Dubai Group. Together they will discuss Koolhaas’ two decades of engagement with Dubai, her evolving relationship to photography, and how the art form itself is adapting in the face of new technologies and a rapidly changing world.
About the Artist
Charlie Koolhaas (b. 1977) is a Rotterdam- and Dubai-based artist, photographer, and writer. Her work traverses urban documentation, conceptual photography, and sculptural installations, often blurring distinctions between disciplines. She is the author of City Lust (Scheidegger & Spiess2020), a critically acclaimed book that reflects on five global cities—Dubai, Guangzhou, Lagos, London, and Houston—through a lens of multiculturalism and economic transformation.
Koolhaas’ projects have been exhibited internationally, and her practice has been featured in leading cultural institutions, journals, and art biennials. In addition to her photographic practice, she is known for her cross-disciplinary experiments—such as Foto-Couture, a project that transforms photographic archives into wearable garments, making the body a living archive of urban memory.
