Between a Beach and Slope: A Conversation in Verse and Art

Between a Beach and Slope: A Conversation in Verse and Art offered a unique opportunity to delve into the intersection of poetry and visual art through the 2025 commissioned public artworks by Nujoom Alghanem and Shilpa Gupta, which previewed during Alserkal Art Week in March 2025.

The talk featured live readings of Nujoom Alghanem’s poem Between a Beach and Slope, which inspired the theme for the commissions, as well as poetry readings by artist Shilpa Gupta, and curator Fatoş Üstek.

Through an intimate dialogue, they invited a reflection on the works' deeper meanings, with the artists and curator sharing insights into their practices and the broader cultural narratives that informed them.
