Solaris (1972)

August 14, 2021 | Part of Some Time Away

A movie that feels like a lucid dream.

Starts 8:30 PM

Ends 11:15 PM

Venue Warehouse 50

Psychological horror movie? Sci-fi masterpiece? A stirring meditation on nature? A fly in the face of Kubrick’s ‘shallow’ 2001: A Space Odyssey? Tarkovsky’s melancholic dreamworld continues to entrance, nearly 60 years on. The conjugal sub-plot (protagonist Kris Kelvin encounters an incarnation of his wife who committed suicide 10 years earlier) coolly rebounds off the mad marital imaginings of Zaougaty wel Kalb. A cult classic that is worth seeing in big format just because it feels like a lucid dream.
