Fuzzy Objects

Parametric Design and the Politics of Speculative Aesthetics

March 22, 2021

A lecture performance by artist-in-residence Wilf Speller

Starts 7:30 PM

Ends 8:30 PM

Through an examination of luxury real estate marketing material, Wilf Speller presents their recent research on the technologies and aesthetics that shape neoliberal world views. Alongside illustrative video excerpts, we will critically examine contemporary tools for imaging the world; the same techniques used in animation to simulate chaotic forms are increasingly shaping not just our built environment, but also the organisation of our society.

Nilz Källgren’s and Wilf Speller’s collaboration is one of, in their own words, ‘mutual contamination and disinfection.’ While studying together at the Dutch Art Institute, their conversations developed into various collaborations, and the pair started working as a duo. Their collaborative practice, whilst young, merges their interests in the boundaries between subject and environment, and the affective relation between the two.
